New Haven, CT — A 43-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Chapel Street Saturday afternoon, according to New Haven police. Officers responded around 2:30 p.m. to the intersection of Chapel and Union streets following reports of a serious crash involving a motorcycle and sedan.
Police identified the motorcyclist as Michael Borelli of New Haven. “He was later pronounced dead at the scene,” authorities said.
Investigators said a Chevy Malibu was heading west on Chapel Street and began to turn left onto Union Street. At that moment, Borelli, traveling eastbound on a motorcycle, struck the front of the vehicle during the turn.
First responders found Borelli with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported. Police have not indicated whether the driver of the Chevy Malibu remained at the scene or if any charges are pending.
Due to the crash, Chapel Street was shut down between State Street and Olive Street for several hours while emergency personnel cleared the scene and conducted an on-site investigation. The road has since reopened.
“The investigation is active and ongoing,” police said. No additional details have been released.
