NORWALK, CT – March 9, 2025 – An overnight fire in a Norwalk residence caused significant damage, affecting the basement and multiple rooms on the first floor, officials confirmed Sunday morning.

Firefighters responded to the home on Tonetta Circle shortly after midnight after receiving reports of heavy smoke and flames. Upon arrival, crews found the fire had already spread from the basement to the first floor, causing extensive damage throughout the structure.

According to Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Maggio, the home’s occupant was able to evacuate safely after being alerted by a functioning smoke detector. No injuries were reported.

“The fire had already progressed significantly by the time we arrived, but the working smoke detector played a crucial role in ensuring the occupant’s safe escape.”

Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Maggio said.

Firefighters worked for over an hour to bring the flames under control. While the blaze was eventually extinguished, the home suffered heavy fire and smoke damage. Fire marshals are currently investigating the cause of the fire, though initial assessments indicate it may have originated in the basement.

Officials are reminding residents to check their smoke detectors regularly and have an emergency evacuation plan in place.

Further updates will be provided as investigators release more details.
