Norwalk, CT – Authorities in Norwalk are urging residents to report unpermitted solicitors as complaints continue to mount across the city.

Police said unauthorized individuals and businesses have been going door to door without proper approval, violating municipal regulations and prompting enforcement measures.

In a statement posted Friday, the Norwalk Police Department confirmed it has received multiple reports of solicitors operating without permits.

Officials stressed that city regulations require all solicitors to submit applications and pass background checks before being issued an identification badge. Police said any violation of this requirement results in a fine for each residence solicited without authorization.

“We ask that residents familiarize themselves with the guidelines and contact the police department if they find solicitors in violation,” Norwalk police said in the statement.

Authorities noted that even with a permit, solicitors must follow strict rules.

The permit does not override restrictions posted on private property, such as signs that read “No Trespassing” or “No Solicitation.” Soliciting is only allowed between 9 a.m. and dusk.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that all approved solicitors must wear and display a city-issued identification badge at all times, stating that a company badge is not an acceptable substitute.

Concerns about unpermitted soliciting have grown as more residents report encounters with individuals who fail to present proper identification.

Police have not disclosed how many complaints they have received but said they are actively investigating reports and taking action against violators.

The department has encouraged residents to remain vigilant and to contact authorities immediately if they encounter solicitors who appear to be operating outside the law.

Residents can report unlicensed solicitors by calling the Norwalk Police Department at 203-854-3000. Officials said those who wish to provide information anonymously may use the Norwalk Police Tip Line at 203-854-3111.

Tips can also be submitted through the police department’s website at www.norwalkpd.com or sent via text by typing “NORWALKPD” followed by the message and sending it to TIP411 (847411).

Law enforcement officials did not specify whether any citations have been issued or if any individuals have been detained in connection with the complaints.

The department has not provided details on whether particular businesses or organizations are linked to the reported violations. Authorities said investigations are ongoing.
