PLAINFIELD, CT — A motor vehicle accident on Interstate 395 South sent one driver to the hospital Friday afternoon after his sedan crossed lanes and struck a center median guardrail, according to Connecticut State Police.
At approximately 1:15 p.m. on April 18, emergency crews from the Moosup Fire Department, American Legion Ambulance, and CT State Police Troop D responded to the scene at the 31.8 mile marker in Plainfield.
The vehicle involved was a Mercury Grand Marquis operated by 63-year-old Alvin Wood of Danielson, who was traveling in the right lane with a passenger.
“For an unknown reason,” police stated, “Wood swerved into the right hand shoulder, crossed both lanes of travel and struck a metal beam guardrail in the center median.”
The Connecticut Department of Transportation was notified and responded to assess damage to approximately 10 feet of the metal guardrail. The Mercury was towed by Autolock with disabling damage, including dents, scrapes, and leaking engine fluid.
Wood was transported by American Legion Ambulance to Plainfield Backus for injuries. The passenger was not hurt and declined further medical treatment after signing a refusal form with EMS on site.
No additional vehicles were involved, and police did not report any citations issued at the scene.
