Trumbull, CT — An overnight house fire on Hitching Post Lane in Trumbull claimed the life of a resident on Saturday, Feb. 8, fire officials confirmed.

The Long Hill Fire Department arrived at approximately 3:17 a.m. to find the home fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from Trumbull Center, Nichols, and Monroe departments also responded to the scene to assist with firefighting efforts.

The fire’s intensity caused the second floor to collapse, making entry into the home too dangerous at first. Crews attacked the fire from outside until it was safe to go inside.

Once inside, they found that one resident had died. The victim’s identity has not been released, and authorities have not determined if there were other occupants in the home at the time.

The fire was brought under control at 5:51 a.m.

The Trumbull Fire Marshal’s Office has launched an investigation into the fire’s cause.

No information has been disclosed regarding the possible origin of the fire.

The incident is one of several serious house fires reported across Connecticut during the winter season.

Fire officials are urging residents to take fire safety precautions, including testing smoke detectors and inspecting heating systems.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
