Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has once again broken her own world record in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking an astounding 50.65 seconds at the U.S. Olympic Trials. This achievement shaved 0.03 seconds off her previous record of 50.68 seconds set in 2022, further cementing her status as one of the greatest hurdlers of all time.

McLaughlin-Levrone’s performance was a highlight of the U.S. Olympic Trials held at Hayward Field, where she led the race from start to finish. The 24-year-old exploded out of the blocks and maintained her lead throughout, finishing almost two seconds ahead of her closest competitors. This race was historic not only for McLaughlin-Levrone’s record but also for its depth of competition, with a record four women finishing under 53 seconds.

  4. Shamier Little – 52.98 seconds
  5. Rachel Glenn – 53.46 seconds [Personal Record]
  6. Dalilah Muhammad – 54.27 seconds​​​​​​.

This latest record continues McLaughlin-Levrone’s tradition of breaking world records at significant events. She first set the world record at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2021 with a time of 51.90 seconds. She then improved her record to 51.46 seconds to win the Olympic title in Tokyo. In 2022, she set a world record at the U.S. Championships with a time of 51.41 seconds and later reduced it to 50.68 seconds at the World Championships in Oregon. Remarkably, four of her five world records have been set at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon​​​​.

McLaughlin-Levrone’s achievements have not only set new benchmarks in the sport but also inspired a generation of athletes. Her consistent performance and ability to break records repeatedly showcase her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.
