HARTFORD, CT — The University of Connecticut is turning to Hartford for a temporary solution to housing pressure at its flagship Storrs campus, announcing plans to lease units at the newly renovated Donaghue apartments for the 2025–26 academic year.
The move is intended to relieve demand at Storrs while providing a more convenient option for students based at UConn Hartford.
According to university officials, the leased apartments will accommodate 57 students and will be offered through the Office of Residential Life to those who applied for university housing.
“Providing the option also will help ease some space constraints at UConn Storrs, since UConn Hartford students who currently live in Storrs dorms will get first dibs on The Donaghue apartments closer to their home campus,” said Nathan Fuerst, UConn’s vice president for student life and enrollment.
The apartments, located near downtown Hartford, will offer studios and one-bedroom units.
Students placed in the Donaghue complex will have the option to select a meal plan that includes five or ten meals per week, along with $50 in dining points per semester.
The announcement comes amid ongoing expansion plans for the university’s Hartford presence.
The Annex, a new residential building expected to house approximately 200 students, is scheduled to open in August 2026.
A new café is also slated to open near the downtown Hartford campus this fall.
UConn launched its Hartford campus in 2017 and continues to invest in urban-based student life infrastructure to complement its growing enrollment.
