WEST HAVEN, CT — Police have charged a 27-year-old man with attempted arson following the discovery of his mother’s dismembered remains in a West Haven home last month.
Officers were called to a residence on Nashawena Avenue on March 24 for a welfare check after the victim’s older son and the property’s landlord reported not having seen her for some time.
Upon arrival around 6:30 p.m., officers found signs of a decomposing body and evidence of an attempted arson.
Investigators identified the victim as 70-year-old Tina Lloyd and believe she had been deceased for approximately two months. Her remains were located in roughly 14 trash bags inside the home, according to police.
Her son, Theodore Lloyd, was arrested on Monday in Hartford and transferred to West Haven police custody.
Authorities confirmed that he has been charged with attempted arson and is being held on a $1 million bond. Additional charges are expected as the investigation progresses.
At a Friday press conference, officials stated that Theodore Lloyd is believed to have acted alone. Several cutting tools, including an electric chainsaw, were recovered from the residence.
The cause and manner of Tina Lloyd’s death remain under investigation.
Theodore Lloyd is scheduled to appear in court on May 27.
