Waterbury, CT — A 20-year-old Waterbury man was arrested Saturday after officers recovered a firearm during a targeted police investigation prompted by ongoing citizen complaints in the Willow Street area.

The Waterbury Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit conducted the investigation near 174 Willow Street and Ridgewood Street. The operation followed multiple community reports concerning narcotics activity, trespassing, and related quality-of-life concerns in the neighborhood.

During the enforcement action, officers observed Nasir Jones, of Waterbury, engaged in activity they deemed suspicious. Police made contact and determined Jones was in possession of a Taurus G2s 9mm pistol.

According to the department, Jones does not hold a valid Connecticut pistol permit. As a result, he was taken into custody and charged with Illegal Sale/Transfer of a Firearm and Carrying a Firearm without a Permit.

Police did not release further information regarding whether the firearm had been discharged or if it was linked to any other criminal investigations. No additional arrests were announced in connection with the operation.

The department stated that the investigation was a response to “ongoing citizen complaints related to narcotics activity, trespassing, and other quality-of-life concerns.”

The Waterbury Police Department said it “remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of our community by actively patrolling our city.”

The investigation is ongoing. No court appearance date has been released for Jones at this time.
