MADISON, CT — A 23-year-old man wanted for allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint in Providence, Rhode Island was arrested early Thursday morning at a rest stop off Interstate 95 in Madison, according to police.
The incident began shortly after midnight when Providence police responded to Crimea Street at 12:13 a.m.
A witness reported that a man had threatened his ex-girlfriend with a firearm, forced her into a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and fled the scene.
By 1:55 a.m., Connecticut State Police Troop F in Westbrook issued a regional alert for the suspect vehicle, described as a gray Jeep with Rhode Island license plates.
Just two minutes later, troopers located the vehicle parked at the Madison rest area on I-95 South.
Inside were a man and a woman. State police said the man, identified as a 23-year-old from Providence, was immediately detained.
Troopers confirmed the woman in the vehicle was the same victim from the Rhode Island abduction. The man remains in custody as the investigation continues in coordination with Rhode Island authorities.
