Norwalk, CT – Connecticut State Police arrested a Stratford man late Monday after clocking his vehicle at 119 mph in an active construction zone on Interstate 95 north.
Troopers from Troop G – Bridgeport observed a blue Infiniti Q50 traveling at high speed in the advanced warning area of the Norwalk Highway Construction Pattern near Exit 16 at approximately 10:36 p.m. The area had a posted speed limit of 55 mph. Construction crews were working at the time of the incident.
The driver, identified as Rakeim Thompson, 24, was stopped without incident. Troopers placed him under arrest and transported him to Troop G for processing.
Thompson was charged with reckless driving in a construction zone under Connecticut General Statutes (C.G.S.) 14-222***Z and reckless endangerment in the second degree under C.G.S. 53a-64.
He was released on a $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on April 8.
State police have warned against excessive speeding in highway work zones, citing increased risks to road crews and other motorists.
